洪亮吉历来被视为性灵派诗人,他对诗歌的基本看法的确都近于性灵派的观念,但其诗学整体上却绝非性灵论所可涵盖,其中一些属于他个人的见解,更值得诗学史关注。相对于袁枚论诗多着眼于言情之巧,洪亮吉论诗更注重诗歌的伦理内涵,在性、情两者中明显偏重于性,也更在意诗歌所表现出的人物或自然景物的内在气质,论咏物诗则强调正面铺写。相对于格调派诗人之重视前代诗歌,热衷于探求诗歌理论,洪亮吉更重视当代诗人评论,对当代诗歌批评投入了极大的热情,他的诗话写作提升了本朝诗歌批评的品位。
