Textbook Analysis:
This unit is introduces some basic information about Canada to the students, its geography, its cultures and its population. There is an opportunity to compare China to Canada, and to ask further questions about Canadian life and the multicultural nature of the country. The climate and the geography of China and Canada are compared.
Teaching aims:
1.Knowledge and skills:
(1)Learn the use of the following words and phrases: Canadian,minister, rather than, continent, baggage, chat, scenery,eastward, westward,surround,manage to, catch sight of, have a gift for.
(2)Learn about some sentence patterns and be able to use them freely.
2.Process and method:
(1)Learn about Canada.
(2)Let the students grasp some important words and expressions.
(3)Get the students to imagine their own trips to some interesting places and arouse their interest in traveling.
(4)Improve the students’ reading ability.
3.Emotion, attitude and values:
(1)Encourage students to learn more about foreign customs.
(2)Cultivate students’ patriotic consciousness.
(3)Cultivate students’ cooperative inquiry ability.
Important points:

Difficult points:

Step1. Warming up
Warming up by playing video and talking about travel.
T:Hello,everyone . It is my great honor to be here as your English teacher, now I would like to give you guys a brief self-introduction .After playing travel video, teacher ask some questions about travel to arouse their interest to the lesson . Then let students find the location of Canada in the map.
Step2.Pre-reading(Group competition)
Play the video of Canada and ask students to answer the following six questions.
Step3.Reading(Group competition)
1.Fast reading
Give students 5 minutes to read the passage and write down the the answers to the following questions in complete sentences.
(1)What does “The True North”mean?
(2)In which direction were the two girls traveling?
(3)How many cities are mentioned in the text?What are they?
2.Careful Reading
Give students 10minutes to finish the exercises
Step4. Summary:
Give students 5minutes to sum up the text by using the structure.
提示:兩名中国女孩,李黛予和刘倩,乘火车横跨加拿大,在旅行途中她们看到了美丽的风景以及野生动物,也参观了许多有趣的地方,同时了解了加拿大。
