Numerous legal provisions have made new companies headaches. Before starting a business, it is best to understand the relevant laws first. For start-ups, the beginning of business is a period of triviality, and too many transactions are prone to problems. One of the most vexing ones is dealing with numerous legal provisions. Jennifer Berrent is one of the partners of WilmerHale, a New York law firm. She believes that entrepreneurs often commit three mistakes in the early stages: one is that they cannot fully protect their intellectual property rights; the other is that they cannot reasonably arrange their shares; and the third is when choosing a form of business organization, it is either too hesitant or too hasty.
