This international competition for urban design seeks to compile a creative plan for the urban design of a historic commercial street, Maju Lane, in Yokohama City. Yokohama City was an early Japanese city influenced by European culture in the late 19th century. Ma Lane Commercial Street is one of the most prosperous streets of that era. Ten years ago, Yokohama City began planning for a new commercial street. To make full use of Yokohama is Japan’s first historical feature of accepting European cultural cities, and clearly stipulating that all street signs, street lights, street benches, telephone booths, brick sidewalks, must show the original historical features. In addition, in the reconstruction project, on the side of the carriageway, the walls of the first and second floors of the building must at least retreat 2.5 meters to widen the sidewalks.
