Objective To study the relationship between the body mass index (BMI) and the prevalence of hypertension and diabetes in a college community in Wuhan and to analyze the related risk factors. Methods The data of health records of 2 183 residents were collected. The effects of sex, age, education and occupation on the size of BMI were analyzed by mathematical statistics. The association between overweight, obesity, hypertension and diabetes was analyzed. Results The factors affecting the BMI of the residents were gender, age and educational level. The incidence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus and weight were lower in overweight and obese residents. There was significant difference in residents with normal body weight (P <0.01). Conclusion The overweight rate of body mass index is higher for men,> 50 years of age, and those with low education level. The incidence of BMI is positively correlated with the incidence of hypertension and diabetes, which needs more attention and attention.
