On the basis of the development of modern large scale integrated circuits and the reduction in microprocessor prices, it was presumed that single-loop microprocessor control devices (one per circuit) would be used in the near future (Control Engineering, September 1976, p. 123-126). The 8-bit microprocessor (Intel 8080 film) acts as a single-loop proportional-integral feedback regulator that regulates the outlet temperature of the two-pipe reverse-flow heat exchanger by manipulating the hot water flow rate. By sampling the outlet temperature every 1/64 second and adjusting the flow rate of the hot water, the microprocessor truly achieves temperature regulation that is indistinguishable from the analog proportional-integral regulator
