According to a new study, the accumulation of variant DNA is the cause of aging in mice, and this result may help advance the study of human aging. “We believe that the key to the aging phenomenon is that with the (gene) mutation or the accumulation of DNA damage, critical cells will gradually die,” said Thomas Proola of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Accumulation of DNA mutations occurs in the energy plant mitochondria of each cell. When these mitochondria stop moving, the cells also follow, and thus the signs of body aging appear.
