AJCEP is the first Economic Cooperation Agreement (EPA) with Japan for Japan to help strengthen Japan’s strategic relationship with ASEAN. ASEAN and Japan have close economic ties, and progress has also been made in negotiating and signing FTAs with other countries. Promoting trade and investment, especially for the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Cambodia and Vietnam, has become increasingly important in developing the Greater Mekong sub-region economy. Therefore, ensuring the implementation of AJCEP is very useful for the economic development of these countries and supporting the development of Japanese enterprises in the region.
