Ink4a/Arf位点编码部分重叠的Ink4a与Arf两个基因。两者在人类癌症中常常发生突变。同时敲除这两种基因产物或Arf基因产物可使小鼠倾向于肿瘤发生。那么Ink4a(又称p16)起什么作用呢? 在近期的《自然》杂志上,两项研究提出了这一问题。Sharpless和Krimpenfort等人证实Ink4a是真正的肿瘤抑制基因。
Ink4a / Arf sites encode partially overlapping Ink4a and Arf genes. Both are often mutated in human cancers. Mice were predisposed to tumorigenesis by knocking out either of the two gene products or the Arf gene product at the same time. So what is the role of Ink4a (aka p16)? In a recent issue of Nature, two studies raised the issue. Sharpless and Krimpenfort et al. Confirmed that Ink4a is a true tumor suppressor.
