The concept of “energy city” emphasizes the need for a more open understanding of urban space, because in urban space shapes and numbers are insufficient to explain the complex nature and interactions between those processes and phenomena. Having different intensities, multiple temporalities, and linear and nonlinear dynamics of energy fields, waves and currents can describe our understanding of urban areas. Such a vision means that city planning and design needs to embrace an intuitive way of thinking that spans scales, themes, ideas, and areas of knowledge and time. This article explores the main features and differences of the concept map of “Energy City” in European and Asian metropolises by discussing the overall thinking of urban jurisdictions.
