Founded in 1914 in Tokyo, Japan, “European Studies Council” and its organial magazine “Jiayin Magazine” gathered a group of intellectual elites who were frustrated by the failure of the revolution. They tried hard to miss the root causes of the political failure in the Republic of China, Exploring New Ways to Confront Yuan’s Dictatorship and National Reconstruction. After the dissolution of Jiayin Magazine, these elites with different backgrounds gradually evolved into several groups with similar ideas and intentions: the “new youth” group, the scholars studying in Britain, the research knowledge group and the cultural conservatives. A comprehensive study of the ideas and practices of various knowledge groups will enable us to have a more diverse and comprehensive understanding of the May Fourth New Culture Movement.
