In addition to his novels, Ling Meng also had some practical experiences in creating dramas and legends, and he also made a lot of deep theoretical reflections on this art style. His selection of Nanqu compiled as “Nanyin three salamanders,” the book attached to the first opera opera “Tan Quzaza.” Compared with other songwriters in the Ming Dynasty, the length and content of the Lingshi novels are very limited, but they can be crucial in a few words. This article attempts to examine Ling’s theory of music on the larger background of the history of Chinese literary theory to highlight its historical significance and academic value.
