在我国,用外语讲授专业课,不论从历史看还是从改革开放这十余年看,都不是一件新鲜事。过去北京的燕京大学,上海的圣约翰大学等院校就是例子。这些院校的毕业生既懂专业,又通外语,为中国的建设作出了历史的贡献。1977年高考制度恢复后,学生的质量有了较大的提高,教师的积极性也得到了发挥。从那时起,高等院校,特别是外语类院校就开始陆续试用外语讲授专业课或者举办专题讲座。不过,由于种种原因,用外语讲授专业课没有很大的发展,对这种作法也褒贬不一或存有怀疑态度。本文就用外语讲授专业课的裨益、局限性和所需要注意的问题做一探讨。
In our country, teaching professional courses in foreign languages is not a new phenomenon, either from the perspective of history or from the ten years of reform and opening up. In the past, Beijing’s Yanjing University and Shanghai’s St. John’s University were examples. Graduates of these institutions not only know profession but also speak foreign languages, making historic contributions to China’s construction. After the resumption of college entrance examination in 1977, the quality of students has been greatly improved, and the enthusiasm of teachers has also been brought into play. Since then, institutions of higher learning, especially those in foreign languages, have begun to try foreign language courses or hold special lectures. However, due to various reasons, there is not much development in lecturing specialized courses in foreign languages, and the practice is mixed or skeptical. This article discusses the benefits, limitations and problems that need to be noticed in the teaching of specialized courses in foreign languages.
