The 40 books of the world’s famous works placed before me are a set of “Easy-Reading Classic Books” introduced by the Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press from Macmillan Publishing Company. The 40 books of 32 books are very familiar, and they remind me of the similar English novels that I myself read during my students: “Dawei Gao Baifield,” “Yan Cheng Cheng,” “Black Arrow,” “Adolescent years”, “Mixed Girl” and so on. It was the story of the late 1950s and early 60s that I had just learned a bit of English and I found myself actually able to read English literary works. I was really delighted. In the process of reading, more English is learned, and more importantly, by reading these languages, the smooth and shorthand sketchbooks stimulate the interest in learning English. These shorthand books played a key role. They took me to the door of the literary classics. Two or three years later, I bid farewell to these shorthand books and turned to the original book.
