The California Institute of Electricity has selected Westinghouse to build the world’s first superconducting generator using niobium titanium superconducting alloys. The company’s research and development lab spokesman said the alloy used in the first superconducting generator plant would consist of 50% niobium and 50% titanium. The lab will also explore the possibility of using a niobium-tin alloy. By the early 1990s, new energy-saving generators could replace generic generators in fossil-fuel plants and nuclear power plants. This generator is smaller and more efficient than a regular generator
