According to the Times of India, a new study announced at the 61st Annual Meeting of the American Heart Association found that eating raisins daily in patients with prehypertension (slightly high prehypertension) helps to lower blood pressure. Researchers from the Louisville Center for Metabolism and Atherosclerosis Research conducted a study of 46 prehypertensive patients with slightly higher blood pressure. The patients were randomly divided into two groups of a group to eat raisin snacks, the other group to eat packaged without raisins, other fruits or vegetables snacks. Two groups of snacks the same calorie. Participants eat snacks 3 times a day for 12 weeks. The former group ate raisins a day (about 60 tablets). The results showed that patients with test pressure decreased significantly. Eating raisins reduces systolic blood pressure by 6-10.2 millimeters of mercury and diastolic blood pressure by 24-5.2 millimeters of mercury, compared with eating other snacks like biscuits, chocolates, and chips.
