With its unique elegance, freshness and magnanimity, music allows us to live in a poetic realm. It disperses melancholy and annoyance, eliminates fatigue, reduces pain and brings hope and vitality to life. Since ancient times, people have been constantly exploring why music can bring happiness or sadness to people, and why the concert resonates with people’s hearts. And psychologists also use their unique methods and techniques to study the psychological impact of music in all its aspects. This article will give a brief overview of the history, methods and applications of music psychology. The study of music by psychologists originated in the German scientist Helmholtz. In 1863 he published a landmark book “The Sound Theory of Physiology as a Musical Theory.” Based on the acoustic theory of Ohm’s Law and the theory of neural special energy theory of Müller, this work elaborates on the causes and construction of auditory resonance.
