India’s economy is a “mixed economy” in which state-owned and private companies co-exist and is one of the 10 countries in the world that has established a relatively complete industrial system. The private economy accounts for about 80% of the total economy. Over 3 million enterprises nationwide and 2.6 million small enterprises (that is, fixed assets investment below one million U.S. dollars) account for about 85% of the total number of enterprises. Small businesses are found throughout the country, 60% of them in rural and underdeveloped areas.
