Abstract Objective To evaluate the impact of positioning images on the total radiation dose of the thorax, including the imaging dose and subsequent chest CT using tube current modulation (TCM). MATERIALS AND METHODS A 192-slice CT-scan model of the human body with and without mammillary accessories of different sizes was used to perform anterior and posterior (AP) or posterior (PA) imaging and chest CT examination using TCM. Based on the CT data obtained, the dose distribution was obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. With Monte Carlo simulation of the positioning image, the position of the tube was fixed at 0 ° and 180 °, and the chest CT was scanned using a TCM technique.
