Preface To improve the thermal efficiency of power plants as the goal, Japan’s power plant boilers have shifted from drum boilers to supercritical once-through boilers. In Japan, it is becoming a major development direction to construct a supercritical once-through boiler to be operated as a transformer with an intermediate load, easy start-up and stoppage, and high efficiency during part-load operation.
