[Objective] To explore the correlation between the social support and mental health of patients with severe hepatitis treated by artificial liver. [Methods] The data collection method was used to conduct the first artificial inpatient hospitalization in some Grade A hospitals from January 2014 to December 2014 with the patient general condition questionnaire, social support rating scale (SRSS) and SCL-90 symptom checklist. Fifty-one patients with severe hepatitis treated by liver were surveyed and the correlation between their social support and mental health status was analyzed. [Results] The level of social support for patients with severe hepatitis treated by artificial liver was higher than that of the national norm (P <0.01), suggesting that patients with severe hepatitis received better social support, of which the scores of objective support and subjective support were higher, But very low. The total score of social support, subjective support and support for patients with severe hepatitis treated with artificial liver were negatively correlated with somatization, depression, hostility and psychosis. [Conclusion] The social support of patients with severe hepatitis treated by artificial liver is closely related to their psychological status. The higher the degree of social support, the less bad patients’ emotions and the better mental health status. Clinical staff should give full play to the role of the patient’s social support system, reduce patient anxiety, depression and other negative emotions, to create a harmonious atmosphere for patients to seek medical treatment, which will help patients recover sooner or later.
