In order to evaluate the safety of Nd: YAG lasers and the potential for damage to the eye, it is important to understand the mechanism by which biological tissues absorb high-power lasers. For this reason, the power density of Nd: YAG lasers must exceed the breakdown threshold of water (typically 1-3 × 10 ~ (10) W / cm ~ 2). Most biological tissues can be considered as a single-phase aqueous system. Nd: YAG laser, which used to have a power density of 1 × 10 ~ (12) ~ 1.6 × 10 ~ (12) W / cm ~ 2, has been induced to vaporize in biological tissues, but it must be noted that vaporization and sound wave production are mainly related to energy absorption. If the power density far exceeds the threshold required for vaporization, then the pressure and temperature in the resulting vapor increase proportionally.
