Lemculus was born in 1944, lived in Indonesia from 1952 to 1956, then worked as a screenplay screenwriter for local newspapers in Amsterdam, and later went to London to study architecture at the Architectural Association School. During his time in London, he completed two theoretical studies of construction: the Berlin Wall (1970) and “Prisoners” (1972). In 1972, he received a scholarship to go to the United States and was deeply attracted by New York City. He began studying the impact of the metropolitan culture on architecture. The research results in this area are embodied in his book “Crazy New York”. The book is considered by the architectural community to declare war on Manhattan.
