戴从容译的《芬尼根的守灵夜》采用了数个独特的翻译策略——比如将每一多义的原字词的数个诠释一一列出,只以短竖符号与主意义相隔;此数个意义之间再以不同字号(小四号标示主意义;小五号标示其他可能含意)做区隔;登录乔伊斯小说里的自刨字词的拉丁字母原文于译文上;以上种种出现在书左页的排版设计加上书右页动辄上百则的注释使得《芬尼根的守灵夜》的中译本呈现出的文本效果趋近西方解构大师德里达一举解构哲学与文学书写的反骨著作《丧钟》,可说成功地重现了《芬尼根的守灵夜》里意义驱散的原始精神。以上呈现在书左页的种种文本设计其实复制《芬尼根的守灵夜》意义不定或具有多重意义的文本特质,即便是连对西方解构传统不娴熟的中文读者,也因为戴译的独特安排,不由自主地参与到文本诠释的再创造,戴译本身就重现如乔伊斯原文如出一辙的“具有书写能力的”的文本特性。若将戴译与德里达的《丧钟》做一比较,则会发现戴译成功地传递了乔伊斯的文字革命,虽然此译作目前只及第一卷,戴译为中文读者开天眼、通天声的重责已功德圆满,而且戴译本身所成就的文本特质足以匹配乔伊斯的原小说,成为与乔伊斯小说自成一格的准对应文本。
