在对20世纪城市发展与都市建筑学历程的回顾基础上，指出了今天世纪转折点上城市面临的四大挑战；并以此提出了新世纪的都市建筑学纲领以及都市建筑师的历史职责。对于即将来到的新世纪指出了都市建设中人工环境和自然环境在空间上的和谐；都市发展中历史环境、现实环境与未来环境的时间上的和谐；创造都市环境中各社会集团之间的社会生活的和谐，乃为21世纪的都市建筑学的精神纲领。
Based on a review of the history of urban development and urban architecture in the 20th century, we pointed out the four major challenges faced by cities in the turning point of the century, and proposed the urban architecture guidelines for the new century and the historical responsibilities of urban architects. The forthcoming new century points out the spatial harmony between the artificial environment and the natural environment in urban construction; the temporal harmony between the historical environment, the realistic environment, and the future environment in urban development; and the creation of a metropolitan environment in which social groups The harmony of social life is the spiritual program of urban architecture in the 21st century.
