Some countries are using large sums of money to develop a new generation of main battle tanks and are already mass-producing and starting to equip them, such as France (Le Clair), Britain (Challenger 2) and Italy (C-1 Ram “). In other countries, the development of new vehicles has entered its final stage and some components and prototypes are being tested. These countries are Israel (”Merkava" IV) and Russia (T-95?). Finally, there are countries that need to develop a new generation of main battle tanks in the early part of the next century, such as the United States and Germany. Despite the profound changes that have taken place in the world situation, the continued development of armored combat vehicles around the world remains undisturbed to a greater or lesser degree. Our long-time collaborator and Rolf Hilmes Bachelor of Engineering, a specialist in armor engineering, examine in the following sections the possibilities and limits of future MBT development.
