Based on the cultural representation theory of Stuart Hall, a British cultural theorist, the article explores the issue of “cultural shift ” in shelf painting. It points out that contemporary paintings on the shelves should be returned to the text. This attention to the text does not focus on the representation of paintings based on image symbols but on “beauty of art”. Present-day figurative paintings should abandon the single imitation of reproduction thinking, enter the cultural representation and pay attention to the image representation process, and explore the creation of visual arts from a symbolic and semantic perspective.
