革胡子鲶,又称埃及塘虱鱼,属鲤形目胡子鲶科,是我国近年从国外引进的优良淡水养殖鱼种之一。由于它食性广,耐粗养密放,速生快长,繁殖周期短,适应家庭及各种大、中、小型水体放养,而且生命力强,便于鲜活上市,肉质鲜美,骨刺少。在我国南方无霜期达260天左右的地区,均可放养双季鱼,亩产可达万斤以上,每平方米产量6～25斤。因此,革胡子鲶是个很有发展前途的鱼种,对改变养殖品系结构具有重要意义。大力进行人工繁殖革胡子鲶,保证苗种供应,做好该鱼的试验、示范养殖工作是很有必要的。
