清末同文馆为我国培养了一大批英语人才,是我国学校正规英语教育的开端,它在英语师资方面,如师资选聘、师资管理等方面极富特色。其成功之处在于:教师的英语基础知识扎实;中文有一定的造诣甚至熟习中国文化;拥有渊博的理论知识和丰富的实践经历;有很强的敬业精神。由于受特定历史条件限制,同文馆英语师资还存在一些问题,如:师资管理权掌握在外国人手中,缺乏教育独立;师资来源多为外国传教士,导致“不重德育”的后果;教育体制和教育管理模式的封建色彩严重。这些问题不可避免地制约了同文馆教育的进一步发展。
