Seaweed female gametophyte at low temperature (5-10 ℃) conditions. Most are single-celled. The experiment shows that under the above conditions, different concentrations of vitamin C on the female gametophyte stimulate the cell slender. The higher concentration can cause mitosis more effectively, so that most of the female gametophyte grow into multicellular filaments, some grow into branches. This means that the genetic basis of the female gametophyte has a wide range of response specifications. Different varieties of seaweed female gametophyte response to vitamin C consistent (this is a certain variation), there are inconsistencies (which is uncertain variation). This is due to similarities and differences in their genetic basis. The female gametophyte of kelp greatly prolonged the growth phase of ovulation under the influence of vitamin C and delayed the mature ovulation, which provided favorable conditions for the observation of cross breeding and haploid breeding by cytology.
