This volume “Deformation of Ceramic Materials (?)” Is a collection of proceedings of an international conference held at Pennsylvania State University, U.S.A., July 20-22, 1983. This collection includes studies on semiconductors and minerals that are closely related to ceramic materials. The initial meeting of the proposition on the deformation of ceramic materials was held in California in 1974, when the conference proceedings entitled “Deformation of Ceramic Materials.” The conference focused on the deformation characteristics of crystals, polycrystals and polyphasic ceramics. Several articles on hole nucleation and creep crack propagation represent major new developments in ceramic research since the first meeting.
