Coulson et al. (2001) argued that humorous effects often result from the unexpected frame-shift-ing. Some humorous comprehension processes are semantic reanalysis. But Coulson et al.’s frame-switching theory fails to fully describe the dynamic creation of semantic meaning in humor appreciation. In this paper, we use Sperber & Wilson’s (1986/1995) relational theory to solve the three main problems encountered in the framework transformation and reanalyze the process of semantic transition in humorous understanding. The analysis takes place in both explicit and implicit Humor at the level and humor through punches.
