随着中国劳动力成本上涨,许多纺织企业正在逐步转移生产线至东南亚、印度及非洲。于是,位于东非的这条从棉花种植、轧棉、纺织、染色到时尚服饰生产的产业链重新变得炙手可热1980年代是东非纺织业的黄金年代,坦桑尼亚和乌干达的棉花年生产量每年分别达到了70万与40万捆。然而自那之后,自由贸易政策将大量廉价亚洲产品及二手服装带入了东非市场,在强劲的竞争压力下,东非纺织业一蹶不振。
As China’s labor costs rise, many textile companies are gradually shifting production lines to Southeast Asia, India and Africa. As a result, the industrial chain from cotton growing, cotton ginning, textiles and dyeing to fashion apparel in East Africa has again become hot. The 1980s were the golden era for the textile industry in East Africa. The annual cotton production in Tanzania and Uganda reached 70 Million and 400,000 bundles. However, since then, free trade policy has brought a large amount of cheap Asian products and second-hand clothing to the East African market, and East Africa’s textile industry has been sluggish under strong competitive pressure.
