前已述及,ABIIS分为DB、DBMS和SL三个部分。其中,SL,即酸碱平衡应用子程序库占据了相当重要的地位。它在处理酸碱各种问题所建立的一系列精确、通用的数学模型的基础上,把有关的理论、模型、公式、方法组织成一个有机的整体,可以模拟化学工作者进行计算、绘图、制表、方法选择、操作规程编写等工作。涉及面广而又具有一定的人工智能。与一个熟练的化学工作者相比,尽管其处理问题的灵活性有一定差距,但其处理速度、精度却是人所难以比拟的。在酸碱数据库DB和数据库管理系统DBMS的支持下,从原始数据的提供到处理结果的输出,几乎涉及酸碱平衡的所有主要问题均可由系统按照用户要求自动完成,从而实现酸碱平衡问题的全计算机化处理。
