陈澧是晚清经学名儒,《科场议》则是他精心结撰并以“议政”之貌示人的重要文章,今人多从科考改良一面考察陈澧撰写此文之旨趣,与其本意不无距离。比勘陈澧已刊、未刊文稿,可证陈澧撰写此文因缘于江浙学术高峰俞樾出题割裂经义一案,且借此深刻辨析“真经学”与“近时经学”之区别,批驳以俞樾《群经平议》为代表的一味求胜古人、剑走偏锋、零碎说经的学风,主张恢复专经之学,以此挽救士习、澄清学风、端正心术,实是借科考论学术,是其构筑“新经学”的重要一环。
