Caveolae is a special lipid raft structure formed by the invagination of cell membrane. It is rich in cholesterol and sphingomyelin and plays an important role in the regulation of cell signal transduction. A large number of studies have shown that caveolae marker Caveolins plays an important role in the regulation of the structure and function of caveolae. However, recent studies have found that the formation of caveolae also requires the participation of another family of proteins, the Cavins family of proteins. In addition, Cavin-1, a member of the Cavins family of proteins, is involved in the regulation of the structure and function of caveolae by interacting with Caveolin-1, a major member of Caveolins. In this paper, the recent progress of Cavins and Caveolins and their roles in the regulation of caveolae are summarized.
