广州市文物考古研究所在西湖路唐代铸币遗址的西部和北部进行了两次考古发掘,发现了新材料:一处与熔铸有关的铜液冷却时形成的台面;一处与“胆水浸铜法”有关的多条沟遗迹。这些新发现,为我们重新认识西湖路唐代铸币遗址提供了新材料,同时也更好地解释以往未曾解决的问题,如铸币遗址的炉基或坩埚的运用、炉基铁锈色的成因以及铸币遗址所用的青铜原料的来源等问题。
