The 14th International Congress on Acoustics convened in Beijing,China from 3rdthrough 10th September 1992.About 750 participants from the five continents attendedthe Congress,a half of which were from China,including Taiwan.China was the hostcountry and a country with the largest population,therefore the largest group was cer-tainly from China.Because of the large number of papers,one third of the Chinese con-tributed papers were presented in the poster sessions.Among the total participants about150 were from Europe,100 from Japan,10 from the other countries in Asia,80 fromNorth America,20 from Australia and South America,and 2 from Africa.About 10 par-ticipants who had attended the 1st International Congress on Acoustics held in theNetherlands came to the Congress.The first congress was held 39 years ago.It is cele-brated that so many pioneers on acoustics have been persistently working in the subject.
