1898—1901年间,陕西大旱导致严重饥荒。在清中央和地方政府以及民间赈济力量之外,美国各界民众通过《基督教先驱报》为陕西灾民募集赈款,并由英国浸礼会、中国内地会、瑞华会等新教传教士在陕西西安、三原、临潼、渭南等地开展赈济活动。本文对此次赈济活动的缘起、赈灾机构的组建、美国《基督教先驱报》记者的灾情调查、灾情向西方媒体的传播途径、赈款的散放方式和过程,以及这次赈济活动的深远影响等进行了深入分析和考述,以期推进陕西近代对外交流史和近代西人在陕赈济的研究。
Between 1898 and 1901, the drought in Shaanxi caused a serious famine. In addition to clearing up the central and local governments and non-governmental relief forces, people from all walks of life in the United States have raised funds for the victims of the disaster in Shaanxi Province through the “Christian Herald.” Protestant missionaries such as the British Baptists, the Mainland China Association and the China Reunion Society, , Sanyuan, Lintong, Weinan and other places to carry out relief activities. This article analyzes the causes of the relief activities, the establishment of disaster relief agencies, the investigation of the victims of the “Christian Herald” in the United States, the route of transmission of the disaster to the Western media, the mode and process of release of relief funds, and the far-reaching impact of this relief campaign And other in-depth analysis and examination, with a view to promoting Shaanxi modern foreign exchange history and modern Western people in Shaanxi relief research.
