The use of computers connected to the method can make crops in their own water when the irrigation requirements. The key to this technology is that plants have a corresponding feeling of discomfort when they are dry. About 100 years ago, botanists discovered that the plant’s stomata (the tiny holes that plants use to “breathe”) begin to close when they are dry. Colorado in the United States is arid, where most farmers have to rely on irrigation. Plant physiologists at the University of Colorado’s Crop Research Laboratory claim they can hear reliable messages from plant stomata. To measure the pressure needed to get air through plant leaves, they used a mass flow porometer. These scientists first held some of the stomata on the leaves of corn plants and connected the stomata to a sensitive electronic device capable of measuring the uncomfortable performance of 34 species of plants
