The use of non-canonical language is playing a more and more important role in modern drama. Due to teaching needs, the author has more contact with American modern drama works, and finds it necessary to make a study on this phenomenon. The language of dramatic works has a very important characteristic. On the one hand, it is the literary language that the dramatist publishes in writing; on the other hand, it brings with it an extremely strong colloquial color. The final manifestation of a dramatic work is a stage performance, which depends on the performer’s performance. Therefore, its language is not merely a language for people to repeatedly enjoy and admire in the study, but also a language in which the characters communicate on the stage and produce a direct auditory effect on the audience. This will inevitably bring it closer to the daily spoken language.
