铅球是投掷项目中重的器械之一,而且技术也比较复杂,要想把铅球推得远,除了要有完善的技术和一般身体素质外,力量素质更为重要。因此,在常规的课堂教学中比较重视下肢、腰、背、上肢和手腕手指力量的练习,而髋和躯干力量的练习往往被忽视或放到次要地位,推铅球的技术结构由预备姿势(持球)、滑步、最后用力、缓冲构成,最后用力是重点,从最后用力的技术分析(以下技术介绍和练习均为右手持球):“……上体达到最大后倾,腹部肌肉充分拉长,两腿象压紧弹簧一样,为最后用力储备能量,随着身体前移,在右腿快速蹬伸配合下,左腿积极蹬伸,推髋向上同时右臂向投掷方向推出。”这种推法,技术复杂,学生从小学学到高中毕业,始终搞不清如何推铅球。
