宋代和元代的《诗经》著述序跋在数量和质量上均超越前代,其创作体例也更为灵活,分为自序、后序、他序和跋,展现了创作动机、作品内容、作者交游和诗经学基本观点等多个方面,兼顾了宋元诗经学研究的政治功用和文学价值。宋元学者不但有意识地为自己的作品创作序跋,并且相互为他人作品题写序跋蔚然成风,这种文体即成了学术交流和论辩的方式。一部分宋元《诗经》著述虽然已经亡佚,但仍有序跋存世,为文献考据提供了素材。宋元学者使用“引史证诗”和“借诗立说”的创作方法,用历史事件与《诗经》研究互证,并借此表现其政治观点。宋元《诗经》著述序跋的研究对补充和完善这一时期的诗经学史有重要意义。
