缺乏"杀手级应用"成为3G运营商的头号心病,美国和欧盟推动的e911、e112正在催熟手机定位.随着技术的成熟和价格下降,手机定位有望成为新的"杀手级应用".","LBS/GIS service is considered as another killer service after SMS. It has a great market share and a favorable profit potential. Along with the E911 and El 12 being brought into effect, the global LBS/GIS market started to accelerate in 2005, and the revenue would reach 12 billion USD by 2008. To be sufficiently cost-effective for the mass market, the GPS silicon in mobile phone cost needs to be below $1 per device. One way of reducing the complexity of the GPS receiver is to provide it with the GPS time with an accuracy of within several microseconds. This greatly reduces the search space for the detection of satellites so that fewer correlators are needed, and hence a smaller silicon footprint. A-GPS is such technology. China Unicom launched its new GPS service in 51 Chinese cities in late October, and is now increasing to hit its goal of 114 by the end of the year. China Unicom aims to popularize CDMA navigation service across the country in 2006 and add the navigation function to all CDMA phones by the end of 2007. China Unicom charges CNY 18 per month for the navigation service. Some Chinese securities analysts believe that the value-added services will have a positive impact on the growth of wireless data usage and contribute to beefing up China Unicoms average revenue per user.
