茅坪金矿为一含金硫化物石英脉型金矿床.矿石物质组成复杂,采用一般单一的选矿方法,金的回收率很低,有过半的金随尾矿丢失.现已查明,金的丢失的主要原因是由于矿石中含有一定量碲化物造成的.矿石以Au—Ag—Te—Bi矿物系列共生组合为特征,矿石除回收金外,尚有Cu、Ag、Se、Te、Bi多种元素可一并综合利用.在选矿工艺选择上,采用了重选加浮选加氧化焙烧加混汞或氰化等联合工艺流程,大大提高了金的回收率,由50%提高到87%.
