Two companies, MCI and Progressive, are trying to change the Internet, at least partially, turning it into a TV-like network. In early August, they showed their plans to the public. The purpose of the plan was to create an open broadcast media based on the homepage using video and audio streaming technology. In the face of commercial advocacy agencies and traditional mass cultural content providers, MCI hopes to sell time “films” like TV networks and cable companies. This adventure is worth the two companies. MCI tries to differentiate itself from other home page access providers, and Progressive is trying to increase revenue before its core products come out. The two companies are currently selling a webcasting integration package: Webcasting-in-a-box, which enables companies and broadcasters to easily calculate the cost of broadcasting on the homepage. This was previously the case.
