开元区是厦门市政治、经济、文化、商贸中心,近年来刑事案件年发案6000起以上,占全市的三分之一强。开元区公安分局刑警大队技术科现有技术员11人,其中法医、理化技术员各1名,痕迹(照相)技术员9名,均为大专以上学历,其中大学本科以上8人。近年来,刑警大队技术科把建立“团结协作、开拓创新、精益求精、乐于奉献”的技术队伍、创一流公安基层刑事科学技术室作为奋斗目标。经过不懈的努力,刑事技术走上了快速发展的道路。技术工作成效显著,现场勘查始终保持较高水平刑事技术能不能发挥应有的作用,说到底还是要看能不能破案、破多少案以及破大案要案的能力,破案才是刑事技术工作的硬道理。1999年以来,技术科通过应用刑事技术手段破获一大批案件,其中仅指纹破案一项就直接认定本辖区案件600余起,带破各类案件近2000起。其中1999年认定76起,带破案件187起;2000年认定124起(占全省的20.5％),带破案件243起;
