In the measurement of tritium generation using cyclotron mass spectrometry, the working gas is tritium-containing hydrogen collected during electrolysis of the water sample and admixed with a small amount of air. The trace ~ 3He in the air and ~ 3H in the sample are simultaneously accelerated and used as a reference standard to monitor the beam change of the accelerator. Describes the experimental methods and results for the detection and identification of ~ 3H and ~ 3He using a combination of a gold silicon surface barrier detector telescope and an aluminum absorption foil.
