提起CO_2,不少人都有些厌恶,认为它把空气搞得混浊不堪,有碍人体健康。其实,对农业生产来说,它是绝对不可缺少的。我们知道,农作物的产量90—95%来自光合产物,而光合作用的原料除了水就是CO_2了。据估计,地球上植物制造的干物质每年可达1,640亿吨之多,同化的碳素约为1.8×10~(11)吨。可见充分利用空气中的CO_2,提高农作物的光合效率,是提高农业生产的根本途径。探索的历程十八世纪七十年代普雷特利(J.Prietley)首先发现了光合作用,他观察到植物能“改善空气”,但是他未能解释清楚植物“改善空气”的原因。后来森尼伯(Senebier)指出:植物在阳光
