随着我国旅游事业的蓬勃发展,各地的旅游资源也不断地被开发和利用。在全国名花中,如洛阳和曹州的牡丹,武汉和南京的梅花,作为一种生态旅游资源,年年吸引着众多的游客。然而比牡丹和梅花更具特色的荷花生态旅游,近十多年来,越来越受到海内外成千上万游人的青睐。究其缘由,主要在于荷花具有姿色香韵景观美,悠久文化艺术美,自然生态环境美和鲜尝熟食口味美等特点,这是其它花卉所不及的。现代旅游美学家认为,旅游是一种审美活动,离开了审美,也就谈不上旅游。而荷花则具备了景观、文化、生态、食饮等多方面的审美特征及功能,并成为我国农业生态旅游中的一枝独秀。
